GoHighLevel vs Fresha: which one does a salon or clinic need?

Fresha is a booking and payments system with a public marketplace, built for salons, barbers and spas. GoHighLevel is a follow-up system: it answers enquiries instantly, texts back missed calls, chases people who asked a question but never booked, and brings regulars back. If your diary and card payments are the mess, Fresha. If enquiries and lapsed clients slip away before they reach the diary, GoHighLevel. Many salons run both.

They start at different ends of the customer

Fresha begins at the moment someone books. The online diary, staff rotas, deposits, card payments and the client record are what it is built around, and its marketplace can put your salon in front of people searching nearby.

GoHighLevel begins earlier, at the moment someone gets in touch: the Instagram message asking if you do balayage, the call you missed while foiling, the Facebook enquiry at 10pm. It also picks up after the appointment, with review requests and the win-back message to a regular who has gone quiet. The overlap is small: both can send reminders and both can take a booking.

Where Fresha genuinely wins

  • The diary. Staff calendars, service durations, processing time and online booking are what it does best, and it is designed for salons from the ground up
  • Payments at the chair. Card machines, tap to pay and deposits are part of the same system
  • The marketplace. People browsing Fresha can find and book you, which GoHighLevel does not offer
  • A low entry price for a one-person business

Where GoHighLevel wins

  • Enquiries that are not bookings yet. Questions about price, patch tests or availability get an instant reply instead of waiting until the end of the day
  • Missed-call text-back. A call you cannot answer mid-colour gets a text within seconds, so the caller does not ring the salon down the road
  • One inbox for Instagram, Facebook, Google, text and email, so a client who messages on two channels is still one conversation
  • Chasing people who asked but never booked, over days, politely, without you remembering
  • Win-back and rebooking messages to regulars who have not been in for weeks
  • No commission on new clients. Every client you win through your own enquiries is yours at the same flat monthly price

What each one costs

Fresha's UK pricing page, checked on 24 September 2026, lists £14.95 a month for a one-person business and £9.95 per team member a month for teams. Online card payments are 1.40% plus 25p, and in-person payments 1.19% plus 20p. New clients who find you through the Fresha marketplace carry a one-off 20% commission, with a minimum fee of £4 per client. Returning clients carry no fee. Text reminders beyond the free allowance are charged per message.

GoHighLevel Starter was 97 dollars a month on its pricing page on 24 September 2026, with unlimited contacts and users and a 14 day free trial, plus small usage fees for texts and calls. It does not charge a commission on any client.

The maths on a marketplace client

A new client books a £70 cut and colour through the marketplace. At 20%, the one-off fee is £14. Five new marketplace clients a month at that price is £70 in commission, on top of the subscription. That is a fair price for a client you would never have found yourself. It is an expensive price for a client who found you on Instagram, messaged, got no reply, and then booked through the marketplace instead.

Ask yourself

Where is your salon actually leaking?

  • Instagram and Facebook messages sit unanswered until you finish for the day
  • The phone rings mid-appointment and nobody rings back
  • Regulars drift away and you only notice months later
  • Double bookings, no deposits and a messy diary
  • Taking card payments is clunky

The first three are follow-up problems. The last two are booking problems. Fix the one costing you the most money this month first.

Our honest recommendation

We use GoHighLevel, so weigh that. If your diary and payments are the pain, Fresha is a better salon booking system than GoHighLevel and we would not pretend otherwise. But a diary only fills with people who got a reply. Most salons we talk to are not short of interest, they are short of time to answer it, and that is the part Fresha does not cover. Plenty of owners keep Fresha for the diary and add a follow-up system for messages, missed calls and lapsed regulars. Start with automation for beauty salons, missed-call text-back and how to win back old customers.

Common questions

Can GoHighLevel replace Fresha?

For a simple one-chair diary, it can: it has booking calendars, reminders and payments. For a busy salon with several stylists, processing times, a card machine at the desk and marketplace bookings, Fresha does that job better.

Can Fresha replace GoHighLevel?

Not for the enquiry side. Fresha handles people who are ready to book. It does not text back missed calls, answer every social inbox in one place, or run a polite sequence of follow-ups to someone who asked a question and went quiet.

Does GoHighLevel charge commission on new clients?

No. It is a flat monthly subscription plus small usage fees for texts and calls. Fresha charges a one-off 20% commission, minimum £4, on new clients who come through its marketplace, and nothing on returning clients.

Is Fresha free?

No. When we checked its UK pricing page on 24 September 2026 it listed £14.95 a month for a one-person business and £9.95 per team member for teams, plus card fees and per-message charges beyond a free allowance.

Should a salon run both?

Many do. Let Fresha own the diary and payments, and let the follow-up system own enquiries, missed calls, review requests and win-back messages. Agree which one sends reminders so clients never get two.
